Driving charity fundraising and community support

Many of our customers, suppliers and other partners may not be aware of our ongoing commitment to helping other people. Yet here at SMH, charity and local community support is a significant part of our culture, vision and values.

In 2018, SMH donated an impressive £21,500 to UK charities through a variety of fundraising activities.

The key charity that we dedicate our fundraising to each year is Macmillan Cancer Support UK and we were delighted to be able to donate an impressive £17,800 to the charity last year.

Each SMH depot also supports a second local charity of their choice.

In 2018, the staff in Worcester raised £4,200 for the Midlands Air Ambulance, whilst the team in Gloucester raised £2,300 for the James Hopkins Trust in Gloucester. SMH employees in Bolton raised £400 for Eammaus, a charity supporting the homeless. And the staff based in Bedford also raised £2,180 for Eammaus, supporting the homeless.

Our enthusiasm for fundraising continues in 2019. Since the start of 2019, £1,000 has been raised for local charities through dress down Fridays at the Worcester and Gloucester sites.  £2,000 has been raised in a Brave the Shave challenge, in aid of MacMillan.  And staff took part in a sponsored walk raising £1,600.

What’s more, SMH has already made £10,000 worth of donations to support other local causes including a £5,000 donation to support the refurbishment of a new community coffee shop in Norton Parish hall and a £3,000 donation to Norton Juxta Kempsey primary school to support the development of a memorial garden.

Sarah Diston, Regional Fundraising Manager for Macmillan said, “SMH has raised almost £118,000 for Macmillan, which is absolutely amazing. The money raised by SMH could pay for a Macmillan nurse for 18 months. We rely on donations and every penny really can make a difference. Thanks to the very generous support of SMH Fleet Solutions, we are now able to reach so many more people living with cancer. SMH’s support is invaluable and their fundraising has been remarkable.”
